Janeane Reagan PhD
Janeane will talk about the role of psychology in equestrian sports including techniques that can help riders and drivers to better manage competition nerves, maintain focus, and have more fun
Janeane Reagan received her PhD in clinical Psychology from Kent State University in 1981. She taught psychology at Akron University in Akron, Ohio for 8 years before entering private practice. She was in practice in Medina, Ohio for 23 years before moving to Florida where she now has a part time practice specializing in health psychology, specifically stress and pain management.
Throughout her life, starting in childhood, she has been involved with horses and equestrian competition. She has raised, trained and shown Morgan horses. Competed in breed shows, dressage, competitive trail ride, carriage pleasure and combined driving. In 1999, following a second back surgery, she opted to retire from riding and driving, but remains active in the equestrian world through her volunteer work with Marion Therapeutic Riding Association, The Florida Horse Park events, and other area equestrian activities.
Janeane has combined her interest in equestrian sport and psychology by presenting workshops to equestrian competitors throughout the country. She also writes a sports psychology column "Training the Brain" for the international carriage journal, Driving Digest. She has also worked with individual riders and drivers to overcome mental barriers and improve their performance
