The basecamp is moving from near the Apex Trailhead to a location closer to Black Prong Equestrian Center. The basecamp will be about one mile east on Highway 316 from the intersection of Highway 316 and Highway 337. Mapquest address of: 10851 E Levy Street; Williston, Florida. The basecamp will be a large open field with water available for horses. We will have porta-johns in the basecamp but no electricity. Basecamp will open up on the 6th of March for those wanting to come early. A map of the basecamp will be available when you pull in to show where to park.
Riders coming to the Goethe State Forest to ride the Fun in the Sun Rides will be grateful to have such well-marked, scenic trails with nice footing. Trails will loop out of basecamp each day. The 30 mile LD and 50 mile endurance rides will have all their checks in camp, while the 100 mile ride will have both checks out of camp and in camp.
Riders will enjoy the various distances that we are offering. Saturday will have a 30 mile Limited Distance ride in addition to a 50 mile ride. On Sunday we will be hosting a 50 mile ride as well as a 1-day 100 mile ride.
For those wishing to ride FEI both of our 50 mile rides and the 100 mile ride will be the ticket. We have even added a Young Rider Division to both of the 50 mile rides and the 100 mile ride for those youth ages 16-21 who are interested in trying their hand at international competition Our trails are easy going and if you ride right-a COC in the 100 should not be a problem.
A Bar-B-Que is planned for Friday evening complete with all the trimmings at the basecamp so that riders will not need to leave horses and trailers alone.
CLINIC OFFERING
For those riders arriving early or already nearby Bio Scan is hosting a clinic in Ocala (40 min down the road) featuring Dr Marvin Cain March 2-3. It's the weekend before the Fits ride.
Dr Cain is a vet acupuncturist and is amazing to watch work. For acupuncture skeptics watching him work will make you a believer.
I first met him in 1995. A difficult man to connect with as he's in big demand and booked to work on the big thorobred tracks both here and in Europe. Horses have been documented to run their personal bests the day after he works on them.
He was one of the first people to study in China many many years ago when the borders opened.
For those interested this is a real opportunity to learn. What he taught Danielle and I, enabled Jedi to be successful in 1998.
Yes, there will be vets attending but the class is open to non professionals. Classroom will be at the Hilton Hotel in the am with a lunch and then working on live horses in the afternoon. Interested people can go to the Bio Scan - Omnilight web site for details.
